Store Cattle

AP & DJ House of St Issey took top spot with a super run of Simmental x Cattle, their 25 topped out at £2710 for a pair of deep bodied and well fleshed Steers, their next pair again deep and long to £2680 and another four super strong Steers away at £2560.

JL Vincent of Pillaton had a strong trade with his homebred South Devon and Aberdeen Angus x South Devon Steers his best a single Aberdeen Angus x well rounded away at £2550 and his best pair of South Devon Steers to £2400.

ER Headon & Son of Boscastle next with a storming run of Cattle again mainly South Devon x, their top a pen of seven South Devon Steers long deep and wide away at £2500, another pen of six to £2400 and four Aberdeen Angus and Limousin x Steers deep and well rounded to £2390.

M T Gimblett of Treneglos had a great day with his own personal record, a British Blue x Steer to £2480, another wide and well shaped to £2460 with a Limousin x Steer away at £2310. L Gregory of Launceston saw the best of her run of Cattle to £2440, a well defined Limousin x Steer with another away at £2230.

J Vokes of Bodmin in next with a pair of Hereford Steers, well fleshed and a great skin to £2280. A G Cowling of St Issey back again this week with another grand run of Charolais x Steers at 18 months to a top of £2270 for a pair of grey Steers.

Young Steers from HJ Trudgian of Bugle were very much a premium with their best 12 month Charolais x Steers away at £1780 for their first 11.

Heifers – Very few and far between but quality all the way through, AP & DJ House topping this section as well, their best pair at 23 months deep bodied and wide Heifers to a top of £2500 and another four well fleshed Simmental x to £2080.

L Gregory back in again with a black Limousin long as a boat and well defined to £2300 at 17 months. L Moore and I Gribble of North Hill saw their best 27 month Charolias x Heifer away at £1960.

JL Vincent back in with four super South Devon x Aberdeen Angus Heifers with super shape away at £1940 and also at £1940 was A Champion with three Hereford x Heifers long and strong from Liskeard.

Stirks and Weaned Calves

Strong numbers of Stirks and Rearing Calves still coming forward and trade jumps up to another tier!!

A nice run of Rearing Calves penned which sold to a serious trade! Young fresh Limousin Bulls topped out at a big £470 (1m), with Limousin Heifers looking well sold at £360 (1m).

The trade of the day was Hereford Heifers at £400, £390 and £360 (1m) looking an unbelievable trade, with Hereford Bulls to £375 and £365 all in from MP Varcoe of St Wenn. Angus Heifers off the same farm raced away to £380 (26 days old). Friesian Bulls to £160 x2 and £140 x2 (18-26 days).

Stirks soared away to £1400 (13m) for a well farmed British Blue Steer in from TA & SJ Kempthorne, followed by very young Blue Steers at a huge £990 (only 6m) in from Ed Martyn of Liskeard. Angus Steers at a massive £1270 (12m) for a smart trio in from Vanda Fitzgerald of North Hill.

Suckler bred Lims reached a massive £1280 (6m) followed by his Hereford and Simmentals at £1210 (10m), in from Messrs Shipton of Week St Mary. Other Hereford Steers made £1020 (10m) in from Riddle Farm Partnership of Barnstaple.

Heifers sold to £890 for a trio of red Heifers at 10 months in from Riddle Farm Partnership again, followed by Blue Heifers to £870 (8m) in from TA & SJ Kempthorne again.

Draft Ewes

A similar entry of Draft Ewes and again a flying trade for all weights and breeds, top per head on the day was £270 for four Charollias Ewes from G & S Whiting of Fursdon Farm, Horningtops, who also realised £252 for another pen.

Suffolk x Ewes saw several pens £200 and over to a top of £231 from II Cowling of Trencreek, who also topped the Texel x Ewes to £229. Shropshire Ewes to £200 from Rich and Charlie Matthews of Hounster, Torpoint. Clun Ewes to £176 from Simon Heal of Jacobstow. Mules to £190 and Hill Bred Ewes to £130.

Goats

A small entry of Goats but a lot more could have been sold, top being £159 for a Golden Guernsey x from Steve Dennis of Liskeard.

Fat Hoggs

A larger entry of 585 Fat Hoggs met a strong trade across the board, overall average of 324.7p, the fleshed Hoggs in keen demand.

Top being 356p for two pens of 36kgs, £128 from Joseph Cornelius of Hantergantick Farm, followed by 350p for a pen of lights from BA Sheep of Treskinnick Cross. Several pens around 335-340ppkilo. Top per head was £168 from Colin Burrow of Tredown, Welcombe for heavy Texel’s and he also realised £166 for his second pen.

Store Hoggs

A smaller entry of Store Hoggs and still much sought after, top being £128 from PJS Parsons of West Petherwin.

Couples

A smaller entry of double and single Couples and a strong trade, doubles topped at £275 for a Lleyn x from Tom Hannaford of Whitstone, who also topped the singles at £215.
