CORNWALL C100 Business Club member, Pamela Idelson of Trebarfoot Manor, visited Bright Sparks Music and Drama Club, based in Week St Mary, to present a cheque for £2,000 to enable the club to purchase a portable stage system.
Pamela said: “I was delighted to present this funding on behalf of the C100 Business Club, a group of like-minded businesses who come together through Cornwall Community Foundation to pool charitable giving to support local Cornish community groups just like Bright Sparks.”
Bright Sparks is music and drama club for children. The club puts on at least two productions each year, meeting at Week St Mary Methodist Church and drawing its members mainly from Week St Mary and adjoining parishes. All children are welcomed and no prior experience is needed.
Recent productions have included Bugsy Malone, extracts from Jungle Book, Oliver and Mary Poppins, Team Alice and, to raise funding for the staging, the children put on their own Variety Show. The club is currently rehearsing ‘Rats the Musical’ for performances on Saturday and Sunday October 27 and 28.
Club director, Hilary Daniel, said: “The children deliver brilliant performances and we play to packed audiences. However, our current stage arrangements restrict visibility for some of the audience. Our new staging will enhance the experience for both actors and audiences. We are extremely grateful to Cornwall Community Foundation for their grant.”
