A GROUP of lads from around North Cornwall have raised thousands for charity through their quirky three peaks challenge.
The ‘Budgy Boys’ are a group of six local lads who embarked on the challenge to support the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Taking on the three peaks, the boys would be pushing themselves to the limit, tackling a total distance of 23 miles and an elevation gain of 3,064m, a true test of physical and mental endurance. However, the boys were not satisfied in simply completing the trek.
In their quest to raise funds for charity, the "Budgy Boys" planned to complete the entire challenge wearing nothing but Budgy Smugglers.
On August 13, armed with nothing but their smugglers – which have an alarming lack of pockets – this group of six ventured forth, tackling three giants of the landscape.
The idea for this mighty challenge came as a way to remember a loved one.
George’s mother, who lived with MS, passed away last year and the challenge was dedicated to her memory.
With determination in their hearts, the boys trekked up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden in only 24 hours.
With the help of local sponsors, such as Launceston Cycles, Bodmin Asda, Bude’s Bar ThirtyFive, and the support of people from across Cornwall and the country, the lads have managed to raise a massive £6,594.
Speaking about the challenge, George said: “Some people said we were mad attempting three peaks in 24 hours. When we told them we were aiming to do it solely in Budgy Smugglers, they thought we were joking.
“70mph wind and rain at the top of Ben Nevis wearing nothing but Budgy Smugglers is no joke! It was a tough challenge but we made it. Seeing the sunrise on Scafell Pike and the beautiful weather on Snowdon was 50 times nicer than being blown around on the summit of Ben Nevis but the money we have raised for a fantastic cause made it 100 per cent worth it.
“We thank everyone for all of their support.”
