THE Tar Barrel Committee has issued a challenge to all-comers from across Devon to test themselves against the Tar Barrel pullers of Hatherleigh. Cups and money prizes are at stake, as well as lots of pride!
Requiring strength, speed, stamina and agility, the Tar Barrel Challenge on Saturday, August 6 will see teams of four pull a barrel on a sledge from the Co-Op in Bridge Street to The Square, complete an obstacle course themselves and then pull the barrel back again … all against the clock (and in fancy dress if you wish!).
Entries are invited from male, female and children’s teams, and all-comers are welcome.
Maybe you’re part of a football club? A netball club? A darts team? A YFC? Or just a group of mates? Why not give it a go?
Trophies will be awarded for the fastest children’s team (under 14 years), the fastest male/female teams, the fastest YFC team and best fancy dress team. There is also a cash prize.
For more news and an entry form see the Facebook page ‘The Tar Barrel Challenge 2016’ which is being updated regularly.
Racing starts at 2pm for children, with adults following at 4pm.
For a guaranteed place, teams can register by Sunday, July 24 for £2.50 per person. Entries on the day will be £3 per person.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day, including live music and a barbecue.
