A POPULAR North Cornwall sea pool has received a donation from South West Water to help support its sea swimming safety lessons for local children.
Bude Sea Pool recently received £2,000 in funding from the South West Water Community Fund to support its highly successful Pool School for the upcoming year.
Pool School provides informative and interactive assemblies for all primary schools in the Bude area, covering the history, geology, geography, and biology of Bude Sea Pool.
Alongside engaging talks about the pool itself, students from the local area are also provided with essential water safety education, helping them to build confidence and awareness around open water. Lessons are led by Bude Surf Life Saving Club, a key group within the town which has been providing vital lifeguarding since 1953.
A spokesperson from Bude Sea Pool said: “This generous grant will enable us to continue delivering engaging and educational experiences to local primary school children, fostering a deep appreciation for our unique coastal environment.
“Thanks to this funding, we will also be able to hire a minibus to transport children to the Pool for unforgettable outdoor learning sessions. For many of these children, it will be their first-ever visit to Bude Sea Pool—and even their first experience wearing a wetsuit!”
The programme is also supported by a number of other local organisations including Friends of Bude Sea Pool and Bude Marine Group among others.
The spokesperson continued: “These immersive sessions offer a hands-on opportunity to learn about the marine environment and water safety in a real-world setting.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to Olivia and the South West Water Community Fund for this crucial funding, which allows us to continue inspiring and involving local children, the future guardians of Bude Sea Pool.”
