A CHARITY which is based in Bude has been recognised with an award by the town’s Rotary club.

Talan’s Trust is a household name in Bude and its surrounding areas, for spreading awareness for Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) and other childhood cancers.

The charity was founded following the death of Talan Penny aged 17 in May 2017 from RMS, a type of soft tissue sarcoma that grows in active muscles of the body. Since Talan died the charity has raised £120,000 - helping fund scientists researching RMS at the Institute of Cancer Research.

In December, Sarah Penny from Talan's Trust was delighted to be asked to the ‘Rotary Christmas Dinner’ held at The Falcon Hotel in Bude.

Little did she know, that alongside the invite, she would be presented with The Eric Chadd Vocational award.

The award is given annually to those who have worked in the local community for some time.

Sarah expressed her genuine shock, saying that she was ‘extremely flattered’, adding that the award was for everyone who supported the Trust, as she couldn't do it without them.
