THE A30 near Launceston is closed in both directions between the A388 junctions of Liftondown and Launceston (west), due to a serious collision involving multiple vehicles.

Emergency services including Devon and Cornwall Police are in attendance. It’s reported that an artic lorry has collided with vehicles causing injuries to two people.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called at 7.30am to reports of an incident on the eastbound carriageway.

By 12.30pm traffic monitoring service Inrix reported: “A30 both ways closed, slow traffic due to accident investigation work between A388 Tavistock Road (Launceston) and Trethorne Leisure Park (Kennards House).”

A driver told the Post: “Launceston is basically at a stand still with so many cars being diverted through the town. Best to avoid.”

Police say the road is expected to be closed for some time while emergency services respond to this incident.

Superintendent Si Jenkinson said: “We are receiving a significant number of road related incidents this morning including collisions and fallen trees.

“Our officers are responding to these reports but I would encourage people to consider whether their journey is necessary.

“If you need to travel, please ensure you do so with care. If your journey is not necessary, please consider not travelling at this time.”
