ANOTHER big day awaits Werrington Cricket Club tomorrow as their four men’s teams look to pick up crucial points in their respective divisions.

In the ECB Cornwall Premier League, just six points separate the bottom four which includes Werrington in seventh, and although mid-table Truro are outside of that, Werrington will be hopeful of victory at Ladycross.

But to do that they must do without opener John Moon and all-rounder Ben Smeeth, which means recalls for Ben Jenkin who was unavailable last weekend, and promising all-rounder George Rickard.

Truro have enjoyed a good campaign so far since returning to the division at the first time of asking, but the absence of Amir Yamin, who has been representing Pakistan in the World Series of Legends tournament, has been keenly felt.

He is likely to return now that competition is over, and Truro know that two or three more wins will secure their survival.

WERRINGTON v Truro: Sam Hockin, Adam Hodgson, Ben Jenkin, Thulina Dilshan, Mark Gribble, Ryan Pooley, George Rickard, Nick Lawson (capt, wkt), Dan Barnard, Mark Taskis, Jordan Duke.

Top of the table clashes are why sportsmen and women play, and Division Two East leaders Werrington Seconds will hope to tighten their grip on the title race when they head to their St Austell counterparts tomorrow (1pm).

The North Cornwall side travel down the A30 and A391 with a 29-point gap over the Saints who have two games in-hand.

If St Austell win, then the momentum is with them, but a Werrington victory will mean the Saints would need to secure victory in the other games to keep pace before it comes to down to bonus points and the like.

With two missing from the first team, Werrington aren’t quite at full strength, but still name a side the rest of the division would envy.

With wicket-keeper Simon Bishop also missing, Rob Dymond takes the gloves after an important 39 not out at Tintagel on Sunday, while batsman Hugh Tomkinson and all-rounder Mark Hodgson are also back.

WERRINGTON SECONDS at St Austell Seconds: Marley May, Dan Howgill, Hugh Tomkinson, Tom Lyle, Rob May, Billy Uglow, Rob Dymond (wkt), Jason Seldon, Mark Hodgson, Ian Searle, Nick Oldaker.

THE thirds have a crucial double-header on their hands as they face the bottom two in Division Three East.

With four likely to go down due to the ten-team leagues being introduced for 2025, Werrington need to, at the very least, win one and pick up a healthy amount of points.

However, while Saturday’s side is fairly strong, Sunday sees several missing for various reasons including unavailability, county matches and work.

It means skipper Ian Wills has just five regulars when they go to Liskeard, meaning Saturday’s clash with Newquay Seconds is must-win.

WERRINGTON THIRDS v Newquay Seconds: Ed Walters (wkt), James Adams, Paul Miller, Zander Zambuni, Dan Warring, Ian Wills (capt), Richard Stanbury, Ian Worsnip, Dan Jenkin, Sam Smeeth, Tyler May.

The fourths are nicely in mid-table in Division Five East but know that they need to finish in the top eight to avoid ‘relegation’ have a tough task when they visit leaders Gorran on the South Cornwall coast.
