NINE members of Launceston Road Runners competed in the first race of the 2025 Cornish Grand Prix Race Series on Sunday, January 19.

The Storm Force 10 – a ten-mile race organised by Carn Runners – sees the route start and finish in Camborne on mainly undulating roads.

With it being the first event of the year there was a huge turnout with 529 runners taking part, although it was Cornwall AC’s Sam Goodchild that ran out the winner in a time of 52:03, 17 seconds ahead of Newquay and Par AC’s Tom Morton.

Morton’s team mate Blake Williams rounded off the top three in 53:51.

Cornwall AC’s Steph Hutton was the first female over the line in a time of 59:22, the only lady to do so in under an hour.

Her club mate Katie Walker was second in 1:00:20, while Truro Running Club’s Katie Knowles was third, 43 seconds behind.

The team results saw Cornwall AC take both the men’s and female prizes by big margins.

Hayle Runners were second in the men with Truro Running Club third, while the roles were reversed in the Female event.

Launceston had no finishes inside the top three of any of the age groups, although Jon Kappes was fourth in the M55-59 category.

The 60-64 section saw David Thomson come fifth.

Their times were as follows: Jon Kappes – 1:07:23; David Thomson – 1:10:49; Eddie Thomson – 1:14:53; Katie Fowler – 1:25:26; Matt Pickard – 1:30:14; Jason Thorns – 1:33:06; Ian Grimes – 1:34:17; Becky Wise – 1:41:07; Linda Pickard – 1:52:41.

The second event of the 14-race Series is the Newquay 10K on Sunday, February 2, organised by Newquay Road Runners.
