BUDE RFC spokesperson Mark Kendrick admitted the Seasiders ‘didn’t really turn up’ after slipping to a disappointing 15-14 defeat to bottom side Bideford on Saturday in Counties One Western West.

The Seasiders fell behind midway through the first half from Louis Atkinson’s converted try, but a penalty try just before the whistle saw them draw level at 7-7.

After the restart, Bude were improved but after falling behind for a second time, Ben Hancock’s try which was added to by Brad Thomas’ conversion gave them a two-point lead with ten minutes or so remaining.

But a late Matt Lewis penalty after incessant Chiefs pressure sent the visitors back up the A39 with four crucial points.

Kendrick told the Post: “We’ve been going quite well without quite getting the wins, but we’ve been struggling at home and I’m not totally sure why.

“We’re very well supported at Bencoolen Meadow and it’s like we feel the level of pressure and go into our shell.

“We’re certainly competitive as shown by our six bonus points, but we just need to find a way of winning a couple more games and turn these decent performances into results.

“Looking back at Saturday we just need to put a line under it and move on. We felt we really didn’t turn up and that showed with the result on the day!”

Bude still sit seven points clear of second bottom Tavistock who have a game in-hand after their trip to Redruth Seconds was postponed, and it is Redruth who the Seasiders visit on Saturday (2pm).

Kendrick continued: “It’ll be a tough game against a side who regularly train in a semi-pro environment.

“When we played them at home they had a number of players who’ve played and now train at a decent level, and it showed, so we’ll need to be at our best!”
