WOMEN’S NC 2 SOUTH WEST (WEST) (SATURDAY)

Bude 48 Helston 15

BUDE Ladies rounded off their home campaign on Sunday with an emphatic 48-15 victory over Helston.

The Seasiders have endured a tough season with a series of long-term injuries coupled with a lot of rebuilding as new players to the sport continue to learn the ropes.

It has meant they will finish last and with it probably relegation, but the team are now in a good position to kick on in the coming years.

A first victory of the season – 22-10 – at Topsham Tempests a fortnight earlier meant they welcomed their West Cornwall opponents with real confidence.

A number of under 18s have stepped up and brought a lot of pace and abrasive play to their play which has shown by the improved performances.

Bude got on the scoreboard early on in the game, running in five unanswered tries in the first half.

Full-back Emily Child was the star of the show with a hat-trick while Caitlin Williams, who also slotted three conversions, and Katie Fry also crossed the whitewash.

From the restart Erin Hunter got the scoreboard ticking over once again, before some good play set up Child for her fourth.

Ellie Gregory got the last before Helston rallied late on to score three unanswered tries themselves to make it 48-15 at the whistle.

A club spokesperson said: “Hard work on the training pitch is really starting to show now, keep it up ladies.”
