COUNTIES THREE CORNWALL
Launceston Castles 45 Roseland 22
LAUNCESTON Castles secured promotion with three games to spare after seeing off Roseland 45-22 at Polson Bridge.
The hosts led 19-10 at the break before four further tries ensured nearest challengers St Agnes cannot catch them.
With the match moved to protect the main pitch before the first team encounter with Sidmouth at 3pm, it was an even start until Launceston scored after eight minutes.
From a break from their own 22 started by Tom Anderton, he got deep into the Roseland half before support from Pete Bebbington and Adam Collings allowed the latter to feed Kuda Chisango to go the rest of the way. Scrum-half Ollie Tomkies added the kick.
Roseland responded with a penalty on 15 minutes before the Castles went further in front via Anderton’s try which wasn’t converted.
Roseland were a threat up front and on the half hour made it 19-10 with a forwards try.
But the home side ensured a nine-point advantage at half-time as number eight Callum Johns went over under the posts from close range.
The Castles knew a quick start to the second half would secure them the title and winger Zerran Hammond added a brace for a 33-10 lead.
Roseland’s hefty pack again rolled over for another try, but further scores from outside-centre Callum Smith and full-back Cohen Larson ensured Launceston ran out 45-22 winners.
