WOMEN’S NC 1 SOUTH WEST (WEST)

Newton Abbot 14 Launceston 39

CHAMPIONS Launceston Ladies wrapped up their season just as they started with a convincing 39-14 win over Newton Abbot at Rackerhayes.

With the title and Cornwall Cup collected in the previous fortnight, the Cabettes immediately put themselves on the front foot as scrum-half Amy Warman took a quick tap penalty and shipped it wide for wing Abigail Matthews to beat her opposite number and dart into the corner (0-5).

An Abbie Smith unconverted brace soon followed and it looked like Launceston were about to rack up a substantial scoreline but Newton Abbot weren’t there to roll over.

The All Whites were able to build some pressure and soon scored themselves, which was added to by a well-slotted kick (7-15).

Launceston carved out some breathing room on the stroke of half-time when fly-half Holly Williams scored and converted for a 22-7 lead at the break.

Newton Abbot came out swinging into the second half, but Warman soon spotted a gap five metres out that she needed no invitation to take. Williams added the two points.

The visitors continued to attack and soon Jess Harrison found her way to the whitewash for her first ever Cabettes score.

Launceston again pressed deep into Newton Abbot territory but this time a turnover found a home player who ran it 80 metres for a converted score.

The Cabettes though had the final say as full-back Chloe Samways left it as late as possible to score her first try of the season with three minutes to go.

The Cabettes wish to thank all of their supporters and sponsors as well as their friends and family who have sacrificed their time, money and patience so these ladies can play and entertain with their skills on the rugby field.
