Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East round-up – Saturday, August 31
LAUNCESTON know that 20 points on Saturday against visiting Boconnoc will seal a return to Division Two East after a thrilling victory at Tideford on Saturday.
Chasing 173 at the Port Eliot Estate Ground, Launceston slipped to 138-7 needing 35 from 36 balls.
But David Sillifant, who had earlier taken 3-38 from his nine overs, found fine support from Peter West (19) to whittle away at the target as they added 34.
West departed with two balls to spare with the scores tied, but after a dot ball, a wide was sent down to spark delight in the away camp.
Sillifant made 35 not out, while earlier in the innings, openers Finlay Worth (24) and Phil Spry (33) added 42.
Launceston’s attack chipped away as Tideford were all out for 172, Matt Bloomfield being the pick of the bowlers with 2-22.
With three teams set to go up and Callington Thirds unable to due to their second team being in the league above, it means anything could happen on the final day.
One team who don’t have such worries are champions Luckett who eased to a 94-run success at Werrington Thirds who will finish in the bottom four if Grampound Road get six points at Liskeard.
Luckett amassed 275 all out, Ryan Brown making 96, while there were solid contributions from Andrew Hoskin (45), Leion Cole (36no), Jonny Hoskin (25) and Marc Brown (22).
Opening bowlers – spinners Ben Sonley (2-38) and Sam Smeeth (3-40) – shared five wickets and took two early ones before the runs started to flow.
Werrington’s reply never got going as they were 181 all out with the best being twenties from Ian Worsnip (29) and Ed Walters (26).
Cole took 3-36 with all six bowlers getting a wicket.
