NORTH DEVON LEAGUE ROUND-UP

MORWENSTOW enjoyed a perfect week in their quest to go up from the Intermediate One division with six points from a possible six.

The Greens visited Shamwickshire Rovers Reserves last Tuesday night and eventually ran out 3-2 winners thanks to goals from skipper Will Bryant, Ritchie Armstrong and Jake Gilbert.

Then on Sunday they welcomed struggling Braunton Thirds and eased to a 3-0 success with Corrick Davies, Jake Gilbert and sub Tudor Placinta doing the damage.

It means they are within five points of leaders South Molton with two games in-hand although High Bickington, who are six points adrift with three games in-hand, are in pole position for the title.

In the Premier, Holsworthy Reserves had a difficult afternoon as Jake Wonnacott’s hat-trick helped strugglers Appledore Lions to a 5-2 victory at Upcott Field.

The in-form Rob Pearce and Joel Greening were the home scorers.

Shebbear United remain in trouble after a 3-2 defeat at home to high-flying Ilfracombe Town Reserves on Saturday.

Sheb, who are fourth bottom but just two points above Lynton in last, scored through Matt Facey and Stuart Quance, but face an anxious final couple of games with Fremington Reserves and Braunton Reserves providing the opposition.

Holsworthy Thirds were beaten 3-0 by champions Merton in Intermediate Two, while in the same division, runners-up AFC Dumnonii Reserves eased past their Morwenstow counterparts 5-0.

DEVON AND EXETER LEAGUE DIVISION THREE

Halwill 1 Bravehearts 2

HALWILL’S hopes of yet another win were dashed as their Exeter-based opponents ran out winners in West Devon.

The Blues were missing key men Connor McIntosh, Sam Down and Jason Winser, and although Aydan Johnston was on target, the points headed back up the A30.

The two meet again on Saturday (3pm).

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL ROUND-UP

In Division Two, mid-table Callington Town had a tough afternoon at Padstow United as they were thrashed 6-0.

Charlestown made it 152 goals conceded for the season as they lost 14-0 at fifth-placed Wendron United.

DEVON WOMEN’S LEAGUE

BRADWORTHY returned to winning ways on Sunday in the Premier Divison with a 4-1 success over Teignmouth in North Devon.

Halwill were without a game in the North/East Division.
