North Devon Football League round-up – Saturday, August 17

THE 2024/25 North Devon League season got underway on Saturday with three divisions as opposed to four.

Due to several clubs pulling out in various divisions, teams have more fixtures but remaining are just the Premier, Senior and Intermediate One.

PREMIER DIVISION

HOLSWORTHY Reserves visited league favourites Boca Seniors and came away far from disgraced before going down 2-0.

They trailed to a solitary Timmy Pike strike before the break, but sub Sam Box guaranteed three points for the hosts at Bocarena Park.

SENIOR DIVISION

THERE are two Post area sides in the Senior Division in promoted Morwenstow and Shebbear United, and both started with convincing victories.

Morwenstow secured the Intermediate One crown in April and took that momentum into visit from Fremington Reserves who were thrashed 6-0.

Phil Horton was the home hero with four of the goals, while Ben Pengilly and Jack Savage were also on target for Robert Pengilly’s men.

Shebbear United headed up to the outskirts of Bideford to tackle Northam Lions and ran out 4-0 winners.

Goals from Taylor Quick, Carl Spear, James Vanstone and Christopher Wildern ensured an enjoyable trip home.

The Intermediate One division, which has 14 teams, gets underway this Saturday.

Amongst the sides are Bradworthy who have returned to league football having dropped out of the Premier Division a couple of seasons ago.

North Devon League Premier Division – Tuesday, August 20

Holsworthy’s home clash with Braunton was one of four games played on Tuesday night in the league, and the Magpies treated their supporters to a six-goal thriller which they prevailed in by four goals to two.

The hosts’ goals came from Ben Sharpe (2), Rob Pearce and Todd Peschke.

SENIOR DIVISION

SHEBBEAR United backed up their opening day victory at Northam Lions by coming from 3-0 down to earn a point from a 3-3 draw with visiting Woolsery.

It was the home bench that proved decisive as Peter Blair and Mark Parnell both netted after coming on, while the other scorer was James Vanstone.
