THE 11th event of the 2024 Cornish Grand Prix Race Series – the Treggy 7 – took place in Launceston on Sunday, September 1.

The race starts in the town square, heads out into the back roads along Underlane before a gruelling half-mile climb up to Tregadillett and then back into Launceston via Western Road before finishing in the Castle grounds.

The race was won by Newquay and Parc AC’s Tom Morton in a time of 37 minutes and 14 seconds, well clear of Truro’s Steve Reynolds who was home in 38:19.

Tavistock’s Jim Cole was third, 23 seconds adrift of Reynolds.

The fastest lady over the line was Truro Running Club’s Katie Knowles in 42:38, just six seconds clear of Cornwall AC’s Tamara Beach. Hayle Runners’ Emma Paull was third in 44:34.

Launceston had a strong home contingent take part with 25 completing the seven-mile course.

Jenny Mills was first home in the F75-79 category, while Martin Hynes (M70-74) and Janet Lathom (F65-69) were second in their age groups.

Several other local clubs including Bude RATs, Camelford Up and Running and Bradworthy Runners were also in attendance.

Bude had four runners including Morgan Craig who was third in the M45-49 section with his time of 43:32, while Stephen Hutchinson was in the same position in the M70-74 age group for his 1:00:37.

Ben Rogers (1:02:32) and Nicola Emmett (1:07:56) also finished.
