SWPL PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)

Newquay 2 Camelford 1

THE Camels put in a highly-encouraging performance before Louis Price’s late goal earned the Peppermints a victory to keep them top of the table.

Camelford lost several key players over the summer, but the new-look side are starting to gel.

Newquay quickly took control of the game, using both wings effectively and creating early chances. However, thanks to a few crucial saves from Josh Colwill and some solid defending, it was 0-0 after 35 minutes.

As frustration grew around Mount Wise, Camelford started to find their way into the match.

Leading the line superbly was Shae Cardiff, playing a lone role up front. His constant running and tight hold-up play allowed the Camels to move up the pitch and launch a few promising attacks, though none resulted in a clear-cut chance.

But just as it looked like it’d be 0-0 at the break, Newquay scored when Coen Briggs beat Colwill from ten yards.

Camelford came out in the second half with plenty ofintentand it paid offwithin seven minutes.

A high boot caught Andy Boxall on the head in the box, leading to a penalty. WithMarkGusterson unavailable, Cardiff stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the corner.

Newquay then regrouped but found it tough to create much, but were given a hand when a Camels sub was sent off for two yellow cards.

But just as it looked like the Camels would head home with a priceless point, the ball fell to Price in the box and the former Mousehole frontman made no mistake.
