HOLSWORTHY Cricket Club held their annual presentation of trophies at their Stanhope Park home on Sunday, September 22.

In a switch from recent years, the club decided to have a celebratory afternoon with a buffet and live music, while the children were able to play football and cricket on the outfield.

The Trees enjoyed another productive season on the pitch with the first team finishing fifth in Division Two East of the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League, as well as once again reaching the Division Two T20 Cup Finals Day where they were beaten by Division Two West champions Perranporth in the semi-final.

The seconds under Lyndon Piper ended third in Division Five East which was enough to keep them in the new-look Division Five ahead of the move to ten-team leagues next summer.

The Sunday side, led by Ryan Seymour-Smith for the first time, finished in mid-table in the North Devon League Division Two.

The ladies continue to improve and played both hardball and softball matches, while the youth set-up which was once again led by Dan Marks, played competitive cricket at under 10, 11, 13 and 15 level.

The winners of the trophies were as follows, although overseas player Herschelle Poggenpoel who was the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in the club, had gone home, meaning he wasn’t considered.

Reflecting on the afternoon and the season as a whole, club chairman Ryan Walter, who is also the first team captain, told the Post: “It was a lovely day to end the season and it was great to see the men’s and ladies teams come together.

“There was a lovely atmosphere inside Stanhope Park and I would like to congratulate everyone on their success.

“Finally I’d like to say a big thank you to all of the sponsors, supporters and everybody in the club who contributed to the season both on and off the field, Liam Brend for his work on the ground and Dan Marks for leading the youth set-up.

“We can’t wait to do it all again in 2025.”
