Cornwall Cricket League Division Four East round-up – Saturday, August 3

ST MINVER Seconds’ hopes of finishing outside of the bottom four were given a boost on Saturday as they thrashed their Menheniot-Looe counterparts by eight wickets at Fourgates.

The Saints head to East Cornwall tenth in the table, and put in a fine bowling display to restrict Menheniot to 186-9.

Jack Gill was the pick with 3-24 from his ten overs, while Nigel Hocking (1-31) and Kieran Gill (2-35) were also tight.

The reply was a routine affair with the chase completed with five overs to spare.

After Jake Keast made 23, fellow opener Neil Kent provided the platform with an unbeaten 61 for Steve Hawke to smash 12 fours in his 75 not out.

Launceston Seconds’ tough season continued as they were beaten by eight wickets by leaders St Blazey Seconds.

Another scratch side went to the Philip Varcoe Sports Ground and they were bowled out for 142.

Stand-in Mark Thomas struck 15 fours in his 70, but of the rest only Richard Burdon (15), Josh Theobald (14) and Danny Sloman (13) reached double figures as Joe Bailey took 4-31.

Brett Grosvenor (2-29) struck twice, but Bailey (35no) and Jowan Isbell (55no) saw Blazey to victory with more than 11 overs to spare.

Elsewhere in the division, St Neot remain level on points with Blazey after an easy six-wicket success at Pencarrow. Spencer Ham took 6-21 before Jack Kent’s 69 not out helped them chase down 110.

Lanhydrock Seconds racked up the runs at home to Duloe whose promotion bid is now all but over.

Lanhydrock amassed a healthy 261 all out with Nathan Libby and Ryan Butler making half centuries, before Duloe were dismissed for 135 in reply.

The other games saw handsome victories for St Stephen and Buckland Monachorum over Grampound Road Thirds and Newquay Thirds.
