Firewatch Devon Senior Cup
North Devon League Senior Division high-flyers Shebbear United set up an away tie against Millwey Rise in the last 16 of the Devon Senior Cup after winning on penalties at Tiverton-based Sampford Peverell.
Both sides traded goals in the first-half with Sheb’s prolific striker Gregory Mitchell on target once more.
Mitchell added a second from the penalty spot midway through the second-half before the hosts levelled from a corner and then went in front with ten minutes to go.
However with the last play of the game, Will Skinner’s superb cross was headed home by James Facey to take it to penalties.
The visitors then held their nerve with Facey striking the clinching penalty for a 4-2 success.
Shebbear’s neighbours Holsworthy are also into the next round after crushing Exmouth Spartans 6-1 at the Tarka Tennis Centre in Barnstaple.
With Holsworthy firsts in action on the main pitch at Upcott Field, where they lost 2-0 at home to Cullompton Rangers in Premier East of the Kitchen Kit South West Peninsula League, the Magpies’ second-string had to move their tie but it didn’t matter as doubles from Ben Sharpe and Lewis Haxell plus efforts from Keaton Meagan and Ollie Moores meant they can now look forward to a trip to either Bow AAC or Exwick Villa on December 7.
A&S Paving Devon Intermediate Cup
In the Devon Intermediate Cup second-round, Shebbear United finally got to host their Culm United counterparts after weeks of cancellations and won 2-0 thanks to a double from Mark Parnell.
Dan Langdon was also the hero for Shebbear, saving a penalty with the score at 1-0.
Their third-round tie sees them host AFC Exe on Saturday (2.15pm) with the winners hosting Northam Lions on December 7.
Ashwater and Hartland Clovelly Reserves’ second-round tie was postponed yet again, with the tie now having to be played this Sunday (2.15pm).
