TORPOINT Athletic missed out on the chance to go top of the Kitchen Kit South West Peninsula League Premier East division with a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Dartmouth last night.
If the three points had been decided based on possession, territory and chances created, Point would have been clear winners.
But it was just one of those evenings for Dean Cardew’s men when they did everything but score.
They carved out enough opportunities to win several games, but had at least four efforts cleared off the line, hit the woodwork twice, and were also denied by some good goalkeeping by Paul Thompson and desperate defending by their hosts.
Both Dartmouth goals came against the run of play and on the counter-attack, with Javian Wright netting the first after 31 minutes, and Josh Webber scoring the second in the 70th minute.
Torpoint stay second in the table, one point behind leaders Okehampton Argyle but with two games in hand.
Next up is a home match with strugglers Torridgeside on Saturday (3pm).
