DESPITE the Carlsberg South West Peninsula Football League only finishing last month, the fixtures for the 2018/19 season have already been released with five Post area clubs finding out their fate.

The opening three matches take place on Tuesday, August 7 with the season scheduled to end on Good Friday, April 19.

In the Premier Division, Camelford, who enjoyed a brilliant end to the campaign to finish tenth after languishing in the bottom four for long spells of the season, start with a home game on August 7 when they welcome Sticker (7.30pm) before entertaining Godolphin Atlantic a week later.

Their first outing away from home sees them go to last year’s bottom club Witheridge on August 18 (3pm) before they travel to fellow Post area side Callington Town on the 21st for their third Tuesday night match in a row. The return clash at Trefrew Park takes place on October 30 (7.30pm).

Old rivals Launceston make the trip along the A395 on Tuesday, September 11 while their Pennygillam date isn’t until Saturday, February 23.

They also welcome Plymouth Argyle Reserves for their first Friday night home game of the year on November 2 and travel to Coach Road in Newton Abbot on Saturday, January 12 (3pm).

As usual, their derby dates with Bodmin Town have been scheduled for Boxing Day and Good Friday with the Camels at home in December.

Callington Town are under new management in the shape of Rod and Pethick, who’ve been given the top job at Ginsters Marshfield Parc after progressing from the third team.

Last year was a desperate struggle, but ‘Cally’ will be confident of a much better time of it in 2018/19.

They open their fixtures with two tough-looking trips. On Saturday, August 11 they go to newly-promoted Millbrook before making the relatively short trip down the A30 to take on perennial challengers Bodmin Town four days later (7.30pm).

Saltash United, who were runners-up two seasons ago, provide the opposition for the first home game on August 18 before the visit of Reg Hambly’s Camelford.

Boxing Day and Good Friday will see them take on Launceston with the home game set to bring the curtain down on the season.

Although they’re hosting the likes of Plymouth Parkway and Plymouth Argyle’s first team in pre-season, the highlight of their league campaign will no doubt be the visit of Plymouth Argyle Reserves on Tuesday, October 23 (7.30pm).

Gary Jeffery’s Launceston exceeded all expectations to finish seventh in the league and reach two cup quarter-finals in 2017/18.

Jeffery has publically stated he expects even more improvement in the coming months and the Clarets will get the chance to show what they’re made of with five of their first seven games on the road.

They open with a tasty home clash with Saltash United on Tuesday, August 14 before going to Godolphin Atlantic four days later.

They’re at home to Ivybridge Town on the 25th before they embark on four successive away games at Bodmin Town, Saltash United, Millbrook and Camelford in the space of 13 days.

However once they’re back at Pennygillam they welcome Plymouth Argyle Reserves on Tuesday, October 18, head to Cornwall Senior Cup holders Falmouth on the Saturday before five home games in a row.

Their run-in looks equally as tough as their opening salvo as they face five of their last six games away from home.

In Division One (West), Holsworthy and Bude Town will hope for improvements on last year.

Holsworthy finished in lower mid-table while the Seasiders had to go on a remarkable run of six wins and a draw from their final ten games to avoid the drop.

However both teams will hope to do much better.

The Magpies, who will once again be managed by Liam Dart, have been given the perfect opportunity to get their campaign off to a flyer as six of their opening eight games will be held at Upcott Field.

They welcome Plymouth Marjon on Saturday, August 18 before last year’s runners-up Ludgvan make the long trek from West Cornwall a week later.

A trip to Dobwalls is on the agenda for their first game outside of North Devon before they welcome highly-fancied Liskeard Athletic and newly-promoted Bere Alston United.

September is completed with an away game at Wendron United and a home game with Penzance on Saturday, September 29 (3pm).

The usual festive fixtures with Bude Town take place on Boxing Day and Good Friday, with the Magpies hosting the festive encounter.

The Seasiders, who this week signed Paul Banks from their local rivals, will hope to be in at least mid-table.

They open their campaign on the same day with a home game against Dobwalls before welcoming St Dennis a week later.

They then have a week off before they travel to Bere Alston United — the first of seven consecutive away games.

However they’ll be pleased to have five of their final six games at home including the last three, culminating with the visit of Holsworthy on Good Friday (11pm).

All five clubs have also found out their opponents in the Walter C Parson Funeral Directors League Cup, which is for teams in all three divisions of the South West Peninsula League, with Launceston and Camelford being given byes into the last 32.

In the first-round on Saturday, September 21, Holsworthy travel to Division One (East) side Galmpton and Roselands and Bude Town entertain Elburton Villa at Broadclose Park.

Callington will play 24 hours earlier when they go to fellow Premier Division side Godolphin Atlantic.

Launceston will travel to either Division One (East) club Bovey Tracey or Millbrook while Camelford have a date at either Division One (West) outfit Plymstock United or Ivybridge Town as they aim to reach the last 16.
