ADAM Chidzoy’s first game since being appointed as manager 24 hours earlier ended in defeat as John Heveran’s stoppage-time winner allowed Torpoint to win the local bragging rights at Ginsters Marsh.
Billy Coton put Cally into a tenth minute lead, an advanatge they held until the 68th minute when Lee Bevan struck home a penalty.
However the big news around the club was of the sacking of Kevin Pethick on Friday despite being undefeated in four games, including away wins against Godolphin Atlantic (3-1) and Camelford (2-1) and 1-1 draws against Sticker and highly-fancied Bodmin Town.
In a club statement, chairman Paul Fletcher, said: ““It was an incredibly difficult thing to do in releasing Kevin Pethick as manager. Kevin has been a player and manager for a number of years with our thirds, seconds and latterly the first team and we would like to thank him for his efforts both on and off the pitch. We really do wish him the very best in whatever footballing ventures he takes on in the future and are very grateful for all his hard work."
Camelford 3
Exmouth Town 4
JIMMY Hinds scored a late winner as Camelford gave up the lead three times in a thriller at Trefrew Park.
Top-scorer Adam Sleep put the Camels into an early lead from Tom Cowling’s cross before Hinds equalised.
Reg Hambly’s men were 2-1 up at the break thanks to Harry Wilshaw’s back-heel at a corner before Arran Denny’s chip restored parity once more.
Ryan Pooley made it two goals in four days when he smashed in a penalty to make it 3-2 before Exmouth struck twice to win it with Steve Avery grabbing the third and Hinds the fourth.
Newquay 2
THE Clarets travelled to Newquay on Saturday, looking to build on last week’s encouraging Cornwall Senior Cup win over Sticker, but fell to another league defeat.
Launceston opened brightly but fell victim to an eighth minute sucker punch when Newquay’s Jack Bray-Evans hopelessly over-hit a cross only to see it drop perfectly for winger Sonny Dover to volley past Josh Colwill. It was the home team’s first attack.
It soon became a real struggle for the Clarets to build any meaningful possession, with Newquay controlling the game. They doubled their lead after half an hour when Colwill was forced from his area to make a good blocking save but was then left marooned as Jose Perez chipped precisely into the empty net from 22 yards.
Mike Walton’s side were under the cosh and couldn’t argue at reaching the break two goals adrift. As the second-half wore on, Newquay were content to sit back, protect their lead and look to hit Launceston on the break. The Clarets used all three substitutes for the final 20 minutes and, for the first time, exerted some control over the game.
Ruben Kane, Jordan Hogan and Jordan Walton all went close but the goal wouldn’t come.
Launceston ended the game very much on the front foot but the damage had been done in the first half.
They will once again look to get their season back on track when Sticker visit Pennygillam in a critical league game on Saturday (3pm).

St Blazey 2
THE Magpies fell to a surprise defeat at home to struggling St Blazey on Saturday, in a game which kicked off early due to the town carnival.
Ryan Oxley gave the Green and Blacks the lead before Blazey sealed it with a couple of minutes to go as new signing Steve Rogers finished off a team move.
Plymstock United 4
Bude Town 2
BUDE now just have three points to their name from 11 games despite pushing Plymstock United all the way in Devon.
Wes Pugh gave the visitors a second minute lead before United equalised through Lewis Jago.
Aaron Hulme grabbed the first of his hat-trick on 40 minutes although Josh Allen restored parity for the Seasiders soon after half-time.
However Hulme struck on the hour and five minutes after that to seal the points.
Bude will hope to pick up their first points of the season at home on Saturday when they welcome mid-table Penzance to Broadclose Park (2.15pm).
