North Devon Football League round-up – Saturday, March 29

PREMIER DIVISION

HOLSWORTHY Reserves moved to within four points of third-placed Landkey Town with two games in-hand as they thrashed Hartland 5-1 at Upcott Field.

The Magpies saw striker Ben Sharpe continue his good form with a double while Aidan Davis, Niall Slade and an own goal rounded off the scoring.

Corey Pillman netted fo the visitors who remain bottom, six points adrift of Braunton.

Elsewhere in the division, leaders Boca Seniors missed the chance to defend their title as they were held to a goalless draw by Landkey who are guaranteed to finish as runners-up.

However, any point picked up by Boca in their final three games will get the job done.

Fremington were also held to a draw, a 1-1 stalemate at Appledore Lions, while the other game saw Shamwickshire Rovers ease to a 5-2 victory at Braunton.

SENIOR DIVISION

MORWENSTOW moved to within three points of third-placed Woolsery, but were left frustrated after a 1-1 draw at South Molton.

The Greens made the long trip east looking to bounce back from their 3-3 draw at AFC Dumnonii Reserves the week before, but were held despite Elijah Acton’s goal.

One bit of good news for Morwenstow was that Woolsery, who also have six games remaining, were beaten 3-0 by title-chasing Boca Seniors Reserves who netted via an own goal, Harry Pipe and James Taylor.

Boca sit seven points behind leaders Braunton Reserves, who were handed an away walkover by High Bickington with three games in-hand.

High Bickington’s decision to concede means they are sit points behind third bottom Lynton who lost 5-1 at home to AFC Dumnonii whose scorers were George Camp, Levi Huxtable, Doru Constantin-Mititelu and Daniel Wright (2)

Bottom side Northam Lions’ difficult campaign continued as visiting Combe Martin put 18 past them without reply.

Stanley Jenkins helped himself to five with Joe Miles (4) and Ryan Offield (3) also filling their boots.

Ben Wyborn and Elijah Clarke scored twice with also Joe Seldon and Jake Wyborn netting.

Ryan Down got Shebbear United’s goal in a 1-1 draw at Merton who replied via Luke Avery, while that was also the same scoreline between Bideford Reserves and their Fremington counterparts.

Billy Rose gave Bideford a point in the second half after Lewis May had put the visitors in front at the break.

INTERMEDIATE ONE

TREBLE-CHASING Bradworthy are within two points of third after thrashing Equalizers 9-1 on Saturday.

The Horniwinks are coming good at just the right time in their first season back, and after easing into a 3-0 lead at the break, scored half a dozen more before the end.

Dom Abbott and Tudor Placinta both helped themselves to hat-tricks while Brad Birch, Lee Clarke and George Wellington also scored.

The biggest score of the day came at Hartland as their reserves edged past Langtree Lions 6-5 to climb off the bottom at Equalizers’ expense.

Jack Coleman, Daniel Slee and Jamie Wood were amongst the home scorers as Danny Jenkins’ hat-trick proved in vain.

Gregory Mitchell and Darren Williams also netted for the visitors.

Such was the nature of the afternoon, 16 goals were scored in the other three games.

Braunton Thirds took advantage of leaders Shamwickshire Rovers’ afternoon off as they put six past Kingsley Wizards without reply, and with it, six different scorers.

Lee Barker, Alexander Dangerfield, Darren Harmsworth, Darren Nicholas, Gustavo Bercavello and Billy Lowe all netted at the Lobb Field.

Holsworthy Thirds had a bad afternoon as they were thrashed 5-1 at Combe Martin Reserves.

Harry Grigg continued his good form for the Magpies with their goal, but Max Peach’s hat-trick was added to by sub Steve Diamond’s brace.

Mid-table Kingsley Park produced a fine 3-1 success at third-placed Georgeham and Croyde Rovers, a result the likes of Putford, Combe Martin and Bradworthy were delighted with.
