Despite an early finish to the season, Camelford enjoyed a solid campaign in the South West Peninsula Premier West, finishing tenth.

The 2019/20 season was to be the 29th in charge for Camels’ boss Reg Hambly, and he believed if it had been allowed to continue, his side would’ve climbed higher in the league.

He said: "We were obviously disappointed like everyone else this season. There was a long winter and plenty of games cancelled due to the weather.

"We were sitting tenth in the league with 14 games to go — with only three of those against the top teams — so I definitely think we could’ve climbed higher and finished in the top eight perhaps."

Camelford were without some of their key players due to injury and they were returning to fitness just before the season was announced as null and void.

Hambly said: "We had the likes of Bobby Hopkinson and Matt Andrew coming back to full fitness.

"Unfortunately Bobby got injured and was out for a while so he could’ve definitely scored some more goals — I think he had scored 10 in 13 games at the start.

"If we can get a striker that can score us plenty of goals that would be great, but that would be the aim of every team around."

"We will keep an eye out for players that could contribute, even around the lower leagues."

Despite the North Cornwall outfit not getting a chance to push for a higher finish in the league, Hambly was pleased with his side’s performance.

He continued: "The stand-out for me this season was the level of football we were playing, and I think those that watched our games would agree.

"I am really pleased with the season, another tenth-place finish and I look forward getting back to it."

One game in particular stood out during the season and that was an evening game away at Bodmin Town, where Camelford recorded a win to remember.

Hambly explained: "The highlight for me though has to be the away game against a strong Bodmin side.

"They had a few Plymouth Parkway players in their squad helping out.

"We were trailing 4-1 with 25 minutes to go and we managed to get ourselves back into the game, winning 6-4.

"It was definitely one to remember and will go down in the club’s history."

There is no definitive answer of when the new season will be up and running, but Hambly is confident that he will have a similar squad to enter into his 30th term at the helm.

He added: "At the moment everyone is in limbo, we are keeping in contact with most of the players and will hope to have a similar team next year and try to strengthen the squad if we can."
