CAMELFORD boss Reg Hambly felt his side ‘wanted it a bit more’ as they picked up a priceless three points in SWPL Premier West by seeing off Wadebridge Town 4-1 on Boxing Day.
A healthy crowd of 183 headed to Trefrew Park and it was the hosts than ran out deserved winners thanks to goals from Mark Gusterson (2), Cam Bidgood and Ross Beare.
Reflecting on the afternoon, Hambly said: “With a couple of tough games coming up, it was a fantastic win, and to do it in front of a decent-sized crowd as well, I was delighted.
“Hopefully everybody enjoyed it, and it gives the club some much-needed funds!”
On the game itself, Hambly said: “They looked quite sharp in the first 10 to 15 minutes, but they didn’t really trouble Josh (Colwill) in goal.
“From then on we gradually worked our way into the game and it seemed like we wanted it a bit more.
“We knew there’d be space out on the wings, so if we could switch the play we would, and it worked well and saw us score four goals for a change.”
Beare’s 25-yard wonder goal made it 3-1, and Hambly joked: “It was a great strike! Ross does attempt a fair few of those, but he caught that one perfectly. I was right behind it and it was in the moment it left his foot.”
He also praised the performance of the home side’s man of the match, Kenley Dyson, adding: “It was a really good team performance but young Kenley was superb again.
“He’s a very talented lad, but he’s also got the work-rate and aggression you need to go with it.
We’re delighted to help him along his footballing journey.”
Camelford, who now sit 13th, welcome Newquay on Saturday (3pm) before entertaining fellow top four side Wendron United on January 25.
