North Devon Football League round-up – Saturday, November 30
WITH Holsworthy Reserves’ home Premier Division clash with Hartland postponed following a Saturday morning inspection, Post area attention was on the Senior Division as Morwenstow and Shebbear United produced fine home victories.
Morwenstow have found their shooting boots in recent weeks, and the mid-table Greens put eighth-placed South Molton to the sword with Jake Gilbert scoring five in a 6-3 success.
The attacker produced a series of fine finishes, and with Ritchie Armstrong also netting, Morwenstow stay sixth having recorded a fifth win of the season out of ten.
Shebbear remain third after a comfortable 2-0 success over Lynton.
Sheb lost Hayden Nimmo early on to injury, and although Stuart Quance had to be alert to slide the ball away from his own goal line, that then sparked them into life.
They took the lead in somewhat fortuitous circumstances as Tom Folland’s corner was helped in by the keeper, but after that they took control as Chris Wildern hit the crossbar and Joey Andrew the top of the frame of the goal.
The second half was more of a battle but the points were wrapped up late on as a long ball over the top found Matt Facey who made no mistake.
Bad weather also put paid to fixtures involving Bradworthy and Morwenstow Reserves in Intermediate One, but Holsworthy Thirds and Putford did take to the field.
Putford headed to Equalizers and ran out 3-1 winners after being level at the break following Maurice Charley-Marquardt’s effort for the hosts.
But Harvey Dack’s brace coupled with Will Jeremy’s finish ensured three points headed back down the A39.
Fourth bottom Holsworthy Thirds lost 2-1 at Kingsley Park despite Joel Greening netting for the Magpies.
