North Devon League latest round-up

HOLSWORTHY Reserves fell to a heavy home defeat in the Premier Division on Saturday as they were beaten 5-1 by visiting Appledore Lions.

The Magpies’ senior squads are stretched at the moment, but despite Todd Peschke netting, the Bideford-based side ran out easy winners.

Morwenstow looked to bounce back from their 7-0 defeat to Saltash United Reserves in the Cornwall Intermediate Cup when Combe Martin made the lengthy trip.

This Senior Division clash produced a six-goal thriller, Combe earning a point in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

The visitors opened the scoring, but just before half-time Jake Gilbert levelled for the Greens.

Morwenstow took the lead through pacy wideman Corrick Davies, only for Combe Martin to equalise not long after.

With ten minutes left, David Hales put the Cornishmen ahead again, only for the visitors to steal a point with 40 seconds remaining.

Shebbear United welcomed Boca Seniors Reserves and eventually went down 2-1.

A goalless half saw Ryan Down have an effort cleared off the line for the hosts, while the visiting keeper also made a couple of good stops.

The hosts failed to deal with a bouncing ball and fell behind, but soon after Chris Wildern levelled it up from a corner.

Home sub Peter Blair was sent-off for two yellow cards in the space of a few seconds, the latter for muttering to the referee, before Boca won it late on.

In Intermediate One, Bradworthy were held to a 2-2 draw by neighbours Langtree Lions despite goals from Lewis Clarke and sub Dan Furse.

Putford drew 3-3 with visiting Sandymere Blues as Will Jeremy (2) and Harvey Dack netted for the hosts, while Holsworthy Thirds were beaten 2-1 by Kingsley Wizards despite Harry Grigg scoring.

Morwenstow Reserves lost 3-1 at Kingsley Park with Toby Trewin netting for the visitors.
