DELABOLE United rounded off a successful 2023/24 campaign with their presentation evening at the Poldark Inn on Saturday, June 22.
The Slaters enjoyed a much improved season in St Piran League Division Four East, and despite thinking they had initially missed out on promotion after finishing third behind Tregony and Biscovey, withdrawals higher up the Piran League structure means they have gone up after all.
Boss Mark Luxton put together a much improved team, and they will hope to translate that into the new season which starts in August.
The winners of the awards were as follows: Players’ Player – Dean Broadhurst; Young Player – Harry Page; Most Improved Player – Jezra Mackenzie; Manager’s Player – Davey Tilley; Top Goal Scorer – Martyn 'Cocky' Cockcroft and Bradley Travers; Clubman – Mark Luxton; Special Thank You – Paul Thomas.
June 14 saw the club’s AGM which was also held at the Poldark.
It also saw club legend and chairman Glen Burrell announce his retirement from playing.
Reflecting on the news, manager Mark Luxton told the club Facebook page: “I'd like to take this opportunity to give a special shout out to Glen Burrell who has taken the difficult decision to hang up the goalkeeping gloves and join me on the sidelines in an official capacity.
“Glen has been involved and played for the club over many many decades, having been top goalscorer on multiple occasions and has more recently been our number one goalkeeper. I'm very fortunate to have someone with his knowledge and experience working alongside me on matchdays to help take the club forward.”
The list of club officials for the new season is as follows: Johnny Welford – president; Glen Burrell – chairman; Davey Tilley – vice Chair; Paul Thomas – secretary ; Adrian Pooley – treasurer; Jeremy Chapman – welfare officer; Mark Luxton – manager; Glen Burrell – assistant manager; Sam Turner – committee; Ben French – committee; Olly Price – captain; Davey Tilley – vice-captain.
