LAUNCESTON Road Runners had an incredibly busy day on Sunday, November 3 with runners completing both the Cornish Marathon and Bideford 10 Miler.
Nine Launceston Road Runners endured the notoriously tough Cornish Marathon which was in its 40th year.
The event, which starts and finishes in Pensilva and is organised by East Cornwall Harriers, has plenty of scenery and infamous hills to keep the runners on their toes.
There were three competitors that finished in the top three in their age group, including Jenny Mills who was first in the F75-79 section.
Claire Winfield and David Thomson were second and third respectively.
The times were as follows: David Thomson – 3:47:45 (third in M60-64 category); Eddie Thomson – 3:51:28; Claire Winfield – 4:06:03 (second in F55-59 category); Peter James – 4:10:04; Jenny Mills – 4:36:31 (first in F75-79 category); Emma James – 5:02:02; Jason Shipton – 5:08:35; Paul Heywood – 5:22:14; Vikki Savage – 5:39:08.
Bude RATs saw two finishers – Ben Rogers and Nicola Emmett – who were done in 4:43:16 and 5:08:40 respectively, while Camelford Up and Running’s Holly Hutchins was home in 5:29:10.
Slightly further afield, Wayne Rundle completed the New York Marathon in 4:33:05.
The ever-popular Bideford 10 miler road race took place from Bideford Amateur Athletic Clubhouse.
The route takes in the fabulous views of the Taw and Torridge estuary and the tranquil return along the Tarka Trail is always welcoming, particularly with the fine weather and supportive crowds.
Launceston Road Runners saw four entrants, which included Angela Brinicombe taking second in the FV65 age group.
The times were as follows: Jaine Hynes – 1:21:49; Angela Brinicombe – 1:26:21; Ian Grimes – 1:31:14; Lorraine Hawkins – 1:48:43.
Bude RATs had two runners at Bideford.
Morgan Craig was around in under an hour in a time of 59:04 for fourth in the M45 age group and 29th overall, while Steve Brookes (2:15:03) also finished.
