THE annual charity competition between Holsworthy, Bude, Stratton and Bradworthy to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit at Barnstaple Hospital got underway last week with the match shortened due to the adverse weather conditions.

John Passmore Cup (second-leg) — Monday, August 5
STRATTON sealed the John Passmore Cup after a 117-104 victory over the two legs against local rivals Bude.
A mix of A and B team players competed for Stratton, but they did enough to win by 13 shots after a 54-52 success in the second-leg on home soil.

Bowls Cornwall County League League One Finals at Porthleven — Saturday, August 10
STRATTON A have been crowned as the second best team in the county after a thrilling day at Porthleven.
The Group Two champions made the near two-hour trip down to West Cornwall for a 9.30am start.
In the morning semi-final they beat a strong Stenalees (St Austell) side 84-58, winning two out of the three rinks before they took on Carnon Downs from Truro in the final.
This proved a step too far as they lost all three rinks (79-44).
Stratton skipper Alan Hall was awarded for the Constantine Cup for Stratton as Cornwall’s runners-up.
Other club news
ARON Braund and Vince Mancuso will represent Group Two in the county finals of the Benevolent Pairs after beating a pair from Saltash in the final at Kensey Vale on August 2.
Elsewhere, in the ladies Golden Pairs competition, Joy Scott and Sandra Parker also beat a pair from Saltash to reach the Group Two final.
