CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLS ASSOCIATION LATEST NEWS

NORTH area winners Camelford Bobcats took part in the Bebbington Cup at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club on Sunday, April 6, writes Nicholas Truscott.

They were one of four teams taking part – the others being Holmans (West), Withiel (Central) and Duloe (East).

First up was Bobcats taking on Holmans, while the other clash was between Duloe, who were going for a fourth straight title, and Withiel.

After Duloe won both opening matches, Holmans did the same against the Bobcats as Kathryn Watson, Mark Payne, Luke Jolly and Peter Hore defeated Chris Jennings, Zoe Barnard-Rowland, Kevin Warn and Geoff Risdon 22-5, which was followed by Richard Rowe, Steve Smith, Elise Daniell and David Studden seeing off Lorraine Warn, Gill Jennings, Lee Rowland and Mike Bray 9-7.

Holmans and Duloe shared one rink each which was good news for the Bobcats who saw off Withiel in both games.

Kevin Warn, Zoe Barnard-Rowland, Chris Jennings and Geoff Risdon defeated Lorraine Davies, Barry Davies, Bryan Skinner and Tony Jago 11-5 while Lorraine Warn, Gill Jennings, Lee Rowland and Mike Bray eased past Rob Wilson, Janice Green, David Flowers and Nigel Tamblyn 14-5.

It meant Duloe and Holmans were tied on six points with Duloe two shots ahead, while the Bobcats were on four.

Holmans took both victories against Withiel although one was 8-7, meaning the Bobcats couldn’t win it anyway.

However, they did share the match with Duloe.

For Bobcats, who finished third on six points from 12, Lorraine Warn, Gill Jennings, Lee Rowland and Mike Bray won 10-5 against Jon Read, Lenny Lee, Martin Boraston and Mark Slack.

Kevin Warn, Zoe Barnard-Rowland, Chris Jennings and Geoff Risdon were beaten 14-10 by Chris Page, Caroline Trubshaw, Charlotte Rollings and Alan Trubshaw.

Holmans finished with 10 points to take the Bebbington Cup title for a third time.
