An audience of nearly 300 rocked in Holsworthy Memorial Hall to the sound of top Christian rock band YFriday and singer-songwriter Shell Perris on December 5.
These bands were invited to play in Holsworthy as part of the series of 'Space' concerts organised by Big Blue Box in conjunction with the Holsworthy Methodist Circuit. Young people from all over Devon and Cornwall were thrilled at the quality of this performance — a rare opportunity to experience Christian worship in a truly contemporary style.
Formed in 1994, YFriday have been writing searching lyrics and powerful melody lines for over a decade and still have "plenty more where that came from."
Known for their breathtaking live shows, their slot within the top five Christian bands in the UK is well deserved and their popularity just seems to grow and grow.
YFriday are no strangers to huge crowds and have played to tens of thousands in many countries around the world but are just as comfortable playing an acoustic set in a more intimate environment.
In April, lead singer Ken Riley won a song writing award in the USA for 'Everlasting God'. It's been officially given by the 'ascap' awards and is a great honour to receive. YFriday are based in Newcastle.
Shell (singer/songwriter, author, speaker and former member of girl band 'tbc'), from Manchester, is busy performing all over the country with a brand new 'rock-chick' sound! Her debut album, 'Have You Heard?' tackles real life and world issues head on. In particular, Shell talked about her battle with anorexia nervosa at the age of 15, and how her faith in Jesus has seen her through these black days.
The kooky tunes stick in your head and are produced by Sitting Duck Productions (who have also worked with Westlife, Natasha Bedingfield, Fame Academy, S Club 7, etc). Shell's dynamite vocals were accompanied by driving rhythms and contemporary sounds and the self-penned and co-written lyrics presented a powerfully delivered message of hope to real people in real life situations.
Big Blue Box was set up by Ronnie and Jane Fernihough to provide equipment and resources for producing quality indoor and outdoor events. Their knowledge was gained whilst working for some of the country's best audio and events organisations over the last 15 years.
Now based in Launceston, but still offering a national service, they have a range of sound, lighting and events solutions to suit most situations. Ronnie and Jane are passionate about bringing high quality events like 'Space' to the South West.
This event would not have possible without the generous gifts from local churches, grants, and sponsorship from several local businesses.
Watch out for the next event!
