TRIBUTES have been paid to a North Cornwall based member of Cornwall Council after they announced their retirement from the front-line political scene.

Dominic Fairman, the Cornwall Council member for St Teath and Tintagel division has announced he will be stepping down prior to the upcoming elections to be held on May 1.

Between 2016 and 2021, he had previously been the council member for the St Breward and St Teath ward prior to its dissolution when Cornwall Council reduced its membership to 87 seats.

A spokesperson for North Cornwall Liberal Democrats said: “We would like to say a big thank you to Dominic Fairman, Cornwall councillor for St Teath and Tintagel division , who is stepping down after nine years of dedicated service.

“Dominic will be greatly missed by residents across St Teath and Tintagel, as well as by his colleagues on Cornwall Council. Local people have always praised his unwavering commitment to rural communities and the support he has offered to residents.

“As a farmer on Bodmin Moor, Dominic is known for his strong dedication to protecting the environment. Throughout his time as a Cornwall councillor, he has been a staunch advocate for affordable housing initiatives and has worked to address concerns about road safety and speed limits in local villages.

“Dominic also played a key role in supporting the new Community Shop in St Breward, and helped to secure the future of the County Farms Estates, ensuring farms are available to new entrants with an emphasis on nature-friendly farming practices.

“Dominic is highly respected across St Teath and Tintagel, and we wish him all the best with his future plans . We're also delighted to announce that David Garrigan will be our candidate for St Teath and Tintagel in the upcoming elections on May 1. Best of luck to David!”
