PARTS of North Cornwall and Torridge are set to be without power until tomorrow evening as engineers battle to restore a Storm Darragh ravaged network.

There are currently 9,610 properties without power across Cornwall, with North Cornwall and postcodes in the Torridge District among the worst-hit areas.

National Grid, which runs the electricity distribution network for the South West of England says it has restored over a million properties with power across its network which stretches across the majority of Southern England.

However, with the extent of damage across the region, some properties are set to not receive power until at least tomorrow evening.

Impacted areas include Chilsworthy, Bude, Holsworthy, Tintagel, Launceston, Lanivet, Boscastle, Tintagel, Camelford and surrounding areas.

In the EX22, EX23 and PL15 postcodes, 1,034 properties are set to be without power until tomorrow evening, with 305 homes in the PL34 and PL35 postcodes facing a similar predicament.

While some areas are set to see power restored throughout the evening of Sunday, December 8, some properties in the PL30 postcode are also set to wait until Monday evening for the return of power.

Roisin Quinn, Field Operations Director for National Grid said: “We would like to thank customers for their patience while waiting for power to be restored. I’d also like to thank our staff for their unwavering efforts to restore power to our customers. We have teams who have been working long hours away from their own homes to get the lights back on in challenging conditions and we are grateful to them for that.”
