BEFORE an enthusiastic crowd, with the children waving glow sticks, Holsworthy’s Christmas lights were switched on last Friday evening, transforming the Square into a glittering fairyland, writes Christine Williams.
This was the climax of an evening of musical entertainment provided by local artists Lily Boo-Casey, Cameron Mills and Angelique Medland.
Then it was the turn of Holsworthy Town Band with a selection of Christmas music contrasting with hip-hop artist Reece ‘Twiggy’ Luscombe, then singer Anthony Simms.
Meanwhile people could enjoy a hog roast, a barbecue by the Holsworthy and District Lions, and for the children a bouncy castle and rides on a mini wheel.
At 8pm everyone’s attention was drawn to the Christmas tree where suddenly Father Christmas appeared and was escorted to the stage by the mayor, Cllr John Allen, who, before the lights were switched on, thanked deputy mayor Cllr Jon Hutchings and all those, including many sponsors, who had organised the event.
The entertainment continued with Reggae/Rock/World Fusion band Lionstar seeing the evening out.
Overall it was an enjoyable evening and a fitting start to Holsworthy’s Christmas festivities.
