SCHOOLS from the Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust, including Bridgerule C of E (VC) School, joined together for a ‘Wonderstruck Science Workshop’.

On Tuesday, January 23, Bridgerule Primary School joined fellow pupils from Bradford Primary and Black Torrington C of E Primary School at the Community Hall in Black Torrington for a workshop entitled ‘Science on Fire’.

The workshop was led by Pete Wright from Wonderstruck Science Workshops, based in Petrockstowe.

The exciting session was based on Sir Isaac Newton’s third law of motion. During the workshop Pete demonstrated the science behind forces and motion through fire, air and smoke.

The children were enthralled as they learnt what gunpowder is and how rockets work. All were left stumped as to how Pete was able to lie on a bed of nails, with extra bricks and weights laid on his chest and then another larger brick smashed with a sledge hammer on top of him and still survive without so much as a whimper — was it magic or just plain science?
