AROUND 20,000 participants involving children from ages five to sixteen took part in the Giant Sleepover held on Saturday, June 19, which made a new Guinness World Record for 'The Largest Sleepover over a 24 hour period'. Over 500 groups snoozed their way through Saturday night, breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest sleepover over 24 hours, while raising money for children's charities and good causes. Midnight feasts, gossiping, giggling, and late night whisperings were all the order of the day (and night) with events taking place in the UK and abroad. This included 103 girls and 28 Leaders from Holsworthy District Guides, who spent the night at Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre. Guides and Brownies from Halwill, Stowford, Hatherleigh, Boasley, Bradworthy, Holsworthy and Okehampton spent the night on the dodgems and Jungle Speed Way, while the leaders were on the Ghost Train. They were treated to a special demonstration of the 'Wall of Death', went on the fairground rides, made key rings for their dads, took part in quizzes and sang campfire songs. Each girl received a goody bag when they left. Holsworthy District Guides have expressed thanks to Waitrose for their support.
