POLICE have confirmed the nature of an ongoing incident in Bude which has seen an increased presence of emergency services.

Over the last day, many residents in the Bude and Stratton area have reported spotting a number of emergency service vehicles in the area, including those from the coastguard.

Now the police have confirmed that this is due to an ongoing incident involving a missing person.

A spokesperson from Bude police said: “We can confirm that emergency services were called during the evening of June 4, 2024 to the area of Northcott Mouth, Bude after receiving a report of a person last seen in the water.

“A group of people were reported to have gone swimming and one man did not return to land. His family have been made aware.”

Police have now asked residents not to speculate on the matter and have assured that updates will be provided when the facts are confirmed.

The spokesperson added: “This is an ongoing matter and we would ask that you remain respectful and do not speculate about it.”
