PLANS for 46 holiday homes, designed with a “village feel” on the site of an existing holiday park, have been submitted to Cornwall Council’s planning department, alongside proposals for a new leisure building including a swimming pool.
The planning application has been made by Valley Resorts Ltd for St Merryn Park near Padstow, which currently offers a range of lodges and cottages for ownership as holiday accommodation or for rental as self-catering temporary holiday lets. The holiday home accommodation is supported by several facilities such as an established bar and restaurant as well as a ‘mini-market’, all of which are used by both park residents and the public, with the park being open all year.
The proposals include a leisure building which will provide a new swimming pool facility with hydro-pool, sauna and associated changing area/amenity. This will be a self-contained facility with dedicated parking and associated landscaping with an outdoor play area. The development would also include an external seating terrace.
The plans also feature the 46 two-storey contemporary holiday cottages, ranging in size from one to four bedrooms, “designed specifically for holiday use and arranged on the available site area with a village feel around outdoor amenity space and associated parking spaces”.
The application site, of just under 1.8 hectares, involves a currently undeveloped managed grassland area on the southern edge of the St Merryn Park holiday village. The site is generally surrounded by open farmland with the Atlantic Bays Holiday Park situated nearby on the opposite side of the highway.
