NORTH Cornwall’s drivers could be set for hefty delays as upcoming works set out a diversion spanning nearly 50 miles.

From May 6 to May 16, South West Water is undertaking utility repair and maintenance works in Camelford along the A39, Victoria Road.

The works stretch from the entrance to Trefrew Road to Oakwood Rise, less than half a mile. However, the works will mean that the 500 metre stretch will be closed 24 hours a day, including weekends.

As a result, a diversion spanning a massive 49-miles has been put in place for drivers, adding more than an hour to journey times.

The planned route will see vehicles taken to Wadebridge and then towards Bodmin. Drivers will then be redirected along the A30 into Launceston before finally travelling along the A395 passed Davidstow and back into Camelford.
