THE official switch-on ceremony of the new floodlights at Launceston Tennis Club was attended by 50 people on a perfect autumn evening.
It comes after a fundraising push for the new lights with sponsored challenges, which also benefited Cornwall Air Ambulance.
At the time of the fundraising, a club spokesperson explained: “The floodlight halogen bulbs were failing and as these are becoming difficult to source the club decided to invest in new LED lights and fittings – a great expense but would be more environmentally friendly and economical in the future.”
After the success, the lights were installed and switched on in a ceremony attended by a number of guests and dignitaries from the local community.
Chairman Barry Frayn welcomed principal of Launceston College Matthew Thompson, CEO of Charlie Bears Dave Wood, president of Launceston Rotary Margaret Young, Ruth Burden of the Community Trust, Tesco Stronger Starts representative Shelley Vanstone, Alex Stratton of City Electrical Factors and Phil Henwood of Henwood Electricals and thanked them all for their generosity and support of the project. He also thanked the committee and all the members for their commitment in raising the funds in all manner of ways.
He then asked Matt Thompson to switch back on the lights and the evening continued with refreshments for all the spectators who thoroughly enjoyed watching the club singles finals.
