The annual installation meeting of Granville Lodge took place at Bude Masonic Hall on Tuesday, April 18.
This is the occasion when not only does the lodge have a new Worshipful Master but many new officers are appointed as well. The new Master, Worshipful Brother John Weller, was installed into the Chair of the lodge by the outgoing Master, Andy Bain. The ancient and interesting ceremony always attracts a good number of Freemason’s from surrounding lodges as well as senior members of the Executive of the Province of Cornwall. The Deputy Provincial Grand Master, David Leaity, together with the Provincial Senior and Junior Wardens, two Assistant Provincial Grand Masters, the Provincial Chaplain as well as Masters of other lodges all gathered with members and guests of Granville Lodge to witness a splendidly executed ceremony. The first duty of any new master is to appoint a team to support him for the forthcoming year. Past Master Tony Davis was appointed Senior Warden and Jeff Green as Junior Warden. Keith Taylor and Brian Rideout were reappointed to their offices as Secretary and Treasurer and Graham Shepherd-Jones was appointed as the new Director of Ceremonies. Following the the formal ceremonial part of the evening reports were received from the Secretary, the Almoner and Charity Steward. The meeting was then closed by John and the National Anthem was sung.
The members and guests later dined at the Brendon Arms where the usual Masonic toasts were observed. David Leaity stated that he had enjoyed what was a very successful meeting and thanked the lodge for it’s charitable fund raising efforts and in particular it’s support of the 2024 Festival Appeal in aid of the Masonic Charitable Foundation. A raffle and bottle draw raised over £180 and all agreed it had been a particularly enjoyable event in Granville Lodge’s annual calendar.
The new Worshipful Master, John Weller will be taking the chair of the lodge for the first time at the next meeting which will take place in Bude on Tuesday 16th May.
