YEAR 7 students from Launceston College, part of Athena Learning Trust, have taken part in a residential trip to Kingswood Activity Centre.

The 230 students who have recently started their secondary school journey went along to the outdoor activity centre on the North Devon coast near Bideford and Westward Ho! beach.

The trip was designed to support their transition from primary school and to make sure they had a great start to life at Launceston College. A residential stay was chosen as it aids students from different primary schools to build relationships and forge friendships for life.

The group tested their nerves on the highest ropes course in the South West, tackled a water assault course, went surfing and embraced some team building challenges. After a busy day filled with adventure, the students got to relax around a campfire.

Mr Matthew Thompson, principal at Launceston College said: “The residential trip to Kingswood Activity Centre is a brilliant way to help our newest students establish friendships and get Year seven off to a great start. Outdoor, group activities really help to build relationships quickly and at Launceston College we are committed to making sure that young people get to take part in a wide range of experiences that go beyond the classroom.”
