THE flower tent was once again blooming with colour and creativity at Launceston Show.

The florists, both amateur and professional, pulled out all the stops to produce some magical floral art which they hoped would wow the judges.

This year there was a new addition to the trophy line up — one in memory of a prolific winner in the amateur gardening section.

Announcing the award Jackie Harrison said: “Mr Ken Jones always used to win on the amateur gardening bench the most points - he practically took it every year. He passed away several years ago, but the family really wanted to remember him so they bought a new cup and introduced that and it is actually going to be for the best dahlia and there will be a new class next year for it.”

The judges chose the best dahlia incorporated in a floral display for this year and Ken’s daughter Teresa was invited to present the award, alongside former show presidents Mr and Mrs Tucker, to its first winner Anna Thomas.
