THE town of Launceston is set for an evening of musical delight as St Stephen’s Church presents a world class concert.

On Saturday, March 29, members of the public are invited to enjoy a special event, featuring performances and musical workshops. In partnership with Metronome Recordings Ltd, the concert features International Artists Inis Oirr Asano on viola and recorder, and Alexia Eleftheriadou to accompany on piano.

Reverend Jess Lancaster said: “It will also be the first public performance featuring the new Bechstein Grand piano, gifted recently to St Stephen’s Church by the Reed family of Westward Ho! on long-term loan, especially for our musical vision of opening new musical opportunities in the area.

“The piano, constructed in the early 1800s, has a beautiful, rich tone and will be the perfect accompaniment to the warm tones of the viola and surprisingly beautiful recorder. If you thought the recorder was an instrument for children, why not come to the concert and surprise yourself?”

Inis Oirr is also offering a treat for children in the morning from 11.30am to noon. A free musical workshop introducing the delights of a recorder played well can be booked for all children, who will receive a free concert ticket.

Inis Oirr will then offer 30 minute one-to-one masterclasses on either viola or recorder to all abilities. The price includes a free concert ticket. To book a place on the workshop or masterclass, email reverendjesslancaster@gmail.com or phone 01566 782119.

Rev Jess added: “We look forward to an evening full of surprises, including music by Vaughan Williams, Van Eyck, Schubert, Shostakovich and Yorke Bowen. A perfect treat for Mother’s Day and all the family! “
