A LOCAL college is celebrating the impressive achievements of 12 Year 9 and 10 students who have successfully completed The Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme.
Launceston College students, including Erin, Indiana, Eleanor, Merryn, Ilya, Nico, Leo, Harry, Jaxon, Hayden, Caspar, and Dexter have shown exceptional dedication and critical thinking skills as they tackled a challenging 2,000-word university-style research report on viruses, guided by a PhD tutor.
The Scholars Programme, a prestigious initiative designed to help students develop academic skills and confidence for university success, encourages students to explore complex subjects and engage with higher education concepts. By completing this programme, students not only hone their research and essay-writing abilities but also gain insights into the academic world and university life.
The Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme is aimed at helping students from non-selective state schools to access and succeed at competitive universities. It provides them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to secure a place at top universities while also contributing to improved GCSE results. The programme is designed to challenge and inspire students, helping them to realise their potential and pursue higher education with greater confidence.
A spokesperson for Launceston College explained: “We have a well-planned careers programme which raises student awareness of the choices available locally in terms of education, training and employment, as well as providing them with impartial information, advice and guidance on the routes and pathways available.”
Mr Matthew Thompson, principal at Launceston College added: “We are incredibly proud of these students for completing The Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme. This achievement is a testament to their academic dedication and passion for learning. The programme has provided them with invaluable skills, including critical thinking and essay-writing, and has inspired them to aim high for their future educational journeys. We look forward to supporting them as they continue to strive for success.”
