A COMMUNITY came together to celebrate its annual carnival in style.
Launceston Carnival was a loud smorgasbord of colour and merriment as the town’s residents came together to enjoy the annual event at a time where attention passes from the long days of summer to darker nights and the spookiness of autumn.
The procession saw a large and distinctive parade venture from Newport Industrial Estate, winding up the hill past the castle as crowds watched before reaching the finishing point near Launceston Town Hall.
Other events included a best dressed window competition, and the evening of events culminated in a spectacular firework display to end a successful night.
The carnival also saw the announcement of the top three winners in the scarecrow competition.
Gateway Tile and Slate came in first place, followed by St Catherine’s Nursery in second and Pendruccombe House in third.
The town’s local schools also played a central part in proceedings, with a spokesperson for Werrington Primary School saying: “This year our theme was numbers and we teamed up with Boyton school. We won third prize in the children's walking category. I think you will agree everyone looked fantastic! A special thank you to our amazing, creative EYFS deputy who made the staff costumes.”
A spokesperson for Launceston Carnival said: “A massive thank you to everyone that made our event so successful, we hope you enjoyed it! The committee, marshals, LTC (Launceston Town Council), judges, bucket collectors and all volunteers worked so hard to put this event together, but it only works if there are plenty of entries and everyone turns up to support each other and the town. So we are humbly thankful to you all for doing exactly that.”
The attention will now turn onto building on this year’s success with the 2025 carnival, which will take place on October 11, 2025.
