On July 14, Holsworthy Amateur Theatrical Society (HATS) hosted the Magical Tots, as they took to the stage, ready to impress 250 locals who jammed into the theatre.

HATS hosted a show as unique and delightful as anything that has been performed on stage in their theatre history.

Jacky Parker said: “It took the resolve and determination of one special young lady who had a dream of nurturing the budding talents of the very young. Amy Eley with an Honours Degree in musical theatre and Early Years Teacher Training tutored, with her special teaching staff, one hundred little tots ranging from 18 months to six years to perform dance routines in class and finally on stage.

“Of course steps were un-coordinated, of course there was bewilderment as little performers were greeted by a house full of cheering adults; of course there was a desire to stand back and watch your friend perform alongside of you; of course there was an impulse to walk off the stage and find safety behind the curtains; of course there was a surge of energy which made the little Tots dance with unrestrained gusto; of course there was the joy of breaking out of your chorus line to wander downstage and wave at mum or dad. But that was the charm of the show! I was so overwhelmed by the sincerity and spontaneity of the presentation that I laughed and clapped right through to the end.

“The stage lighting was superb and created an enchanting atmosphere that complemented each dance number. Enormous congratulations for the costumes. Each outfit was meticulously crafted bursting with colour and creativity. The show concluded with a grand finale which was a measure of joy, energy and a fitting tribute to the incredible work of Amy and her talented team. We wait in eager anticipation for further magic from the Magical Tots.”

The show also raised £500 for charity, through its raffle, which was in aid of Care for Kids North Devon, a local charity supporting families who have children with lifelong illnesses.
